January 31st Message: Discussion Points

Talk About It: Partners in Mission

God has created us all and has given us purpose. We were made to love and worship Him. We were made to share the good news of Jesus with others. Not only has Jesus set an example how to live, but He also sets us an example and instruction on doing ministry. Jesus is our coach and mentor in life and service.

Ask the obvious: how important is it for young hockey players to follow the teachings of their coach?

How important is it for us to follow Jesus' teachings and example?

There is no limit to God’s love for us:

John 12:23 – define the “glory of the cross”.

John 15:13, 14

1 Corinthians 13:7 & 8 “Love knows no limit to its endurance, no end to its trust, no fading of its hope; it can outlast anything. It is, in fact, the one thing that still stands when all else has fallen.” (Philips translation)

Summarize the importance of the attributes of God.

Following Jesus example in ministry

Jesus taught us the importance of effective connectedness and communication

Matthew 11:1 “After Jesus had finished instructing His twelve disciples, He went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee.”

Jesus was asked over 100 questions by all. Of this, the disciples asked Jesus 25 questions.

Some He answered directly:

Mark 4:10 – 12.

Some Jesus answers with a question:

Matthew 17:24 – 26

Matthew 15:32 – 34

Mark 4:38, 40

Why did Jesus answer a question with a question?

It is significant to remember Jesus willingness to give time and to communicate.

The value of effective communication:

Define the word “dialogue”.

How important is it to listen?

Effective communication helps:

· Build positive self esteem

· Helps cl

arify misunderstandings

· Shows value to others

Matthew 19:13 – how can we help children feel valued and appreciated?

Working together:

Luke 9:1 – 6; Luke 10:1 & 2

Was Jesus, as God, self-sufficient? Is so, why did He choose to give the disciples and the 70 ministry opportunities?

What is the value of working together – partners in ministry?

Ecclesiastes 4:9 – 12

Describe the important of:

· Accountability

· Collaboration

· Encouraging

· Challenging

Depending on God:

Read: Luke 10:4 & Acts 3:6 – 16

Princes, paupers, royal children, all in need of God’s embrace

Saints and angels feast on mercy, earth and heaven feast on grace

One compassion, one devotion, one the love of all who love

We the beggars of God’s welfare, love in touch with love above

(Princes, paupers, royal children)

There are blessings working together. For one, it teaches us not to rely on others and primarily only to rely on God.

Several ways God will meet our needs through the Holy Spirit:

John 14:15 – 17

John 16:12 – 14

James 1:5 (New Living Translation) “If you need wisdom ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”

Luke 12:11, 12

Luke 11:9 & 10 ““And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”
