Sometimes Less is More

I have found this to be true: Sometimes a simple message can speak volumes. There have been times when I’ve spent hours and hours browsing through pages of research or other novels that have caught my attention, and I end up grabbing onto one particular, saying or point of view that sticks with me.

My reasoning for this title is exactly what it says. One day in my stack of hasty notes and pages of scribbled writing, I found this message that was a total of 35 words. I must’ve read thousands in search of an idea that I wanted to write about. Out of the blue, the scrap of paper appeared. It read:

"You are a unique person who was individually created, knit, and woven together for His purpose that only you can fulfill. At the same time, He is working out the details of your own life".

These 35 words brought such a meaningful message to me, and I hope it will encourage and lift your spirit as well.

The week I’m writing about was a very trying one and had left me quite drained. I needed to focus on what the bigger picture of some of these trying moments were really all about. I know that every new day is a blank page in the diary of my life, and I truly believe that is the way it works for every one of us.

Each day we are given new opportunities to determine to the best of our abilities what words we will use to fill up the pages and explain our story.

When I say to the best of our abilities, I don’t mean that flippantly.

I know how quickly circumstances that are beyond our control can happen. Our day can be altered in minutes. However, if we write it all down at the end, it will later become a story of how the hardship, grief, or whatever the experience was - how we made it through.

Perhaps the only words you will remember hearing are these FIVE words: “I am here for you.” These five words, coming from the right person, are all that you need to hear. That special connection will help soften the sting of whatever trial you may be facing, or know that is upcoming in the near future.

“I want to help.” FOUR Words that speak volumes, and give you the message that you are not going through this alone.

“I love you.” THREE words that let you know how important you are to someone. Know how wonderful it is to be able to say those very words to someone you cherish when the time comes that they need to hear it. When it is for you… absorb it and let it soothe your soul, as you have done for others.

“Let’s pray.” Two very powerful, strengthening words that will give you immediate hope. The Lord promises that where two or more gathered, He Is in their midst.

“LORD.” The one and only word. He who will stand right with you through the storm while He Takes care of everything else at the same time. One word that is so powerful and says it all.

Psalm 46:1 assures, and promises us that the Lord is our refuge and our strength. He is a very present help in times of trouble.

Verse 10 advises us on what we should do: ‘Be still, and know that I am God.’

These are all very important messages, written using very few words. And it is more than enough to see us through our circumstances. They are His promises that form a chain with links that will never fail us.

When I was a child, I loved to daydream and stargaze. I would look up above me and believed that the stars were pure gold - and that I could turn on lights in heaven, or skip from one star to the other.

On long summer days, I imagined the clouds must feel like huge feather comforters, and I would never have to go to bed if I wasn’t sleepy. That was my image of what I perceived heaven to be like, and part of my childhood faith where I never doubted that my wishes and dreams would come true.

Even with a good imagination, I know I cannot even come close to what it will really be like. If I am faithful to the end, I will have those answers and I will reign with the Lord and all the Saints forever. There will be no more tears, pain or sorrow.

He has made us this, and it is only one word: ‘PROMISE’.

Blessings Dear Readers. I am going to leave you with one more word, and you can do whatever you want with it, but it always lifts my spirit when I think on these matters and I hope it will do the same for you. When you have a moment, just sit there and give the Lord your full attention. Then let yourself do this… IMAGINE!

Amen.
